Local Bay Area Photographer Launches CamerasOverCancer.org Providing Free Makeovers and Photo Shoots to Women with Terminal Illnesses

Local San Francisco photographer and registered nurse, Dwayne Adams, launches CamerasOverCancer.org to provide free beauty makeovers and portraits to women with cancer and other terminal illnesses. The Bay Area organization will be expanding nationwide in 2014 and is seeking professional photographers and makeup professionals in every state in order to provide women with terminal illnesses free makeovers and photo shoots.

San Francisco, CA – A local Bay Area professional photographer, who also is a registered nurse with 13 years of experience working in hospital emergency rooms, has launched CamerasOverCancer.org to provide free beauty makeovers, portraits and photo shoots to women with cancer and other terminal illnesses. Dwayne Adams and Christina Wert own DNA Premium Photography based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Adams, a registered nurse and photographer and Wert, a personal trainer, decided to launch CamerasOverCancer.org after running a contest in 2013 to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They initially had offered a free photo shoot and encouraged women with cancer or other illnesses to submit their stories for consideration. The response was overwhelming and the pair received hundreds of emotionally moving story submissions. The decision was made to launch CamerasOverCancer.com in order to offer free beauty makeovers and photo shoots to as many women as possible.

For the initial contest Adams and Wert held in 2013, they selected a woman named Jessica with Stage IV breast cancer. She was the very first recipient of the free beauty makeover and photo shoot – and an inspiration for starting CamerasOverCancer.com. Jessica’s photo shoot and story can be seen here.

“We were completely overcome by the initial response we received from terminally ill women and that prompted us to launch CamerasOverCancer,” said Co-Founder Dwayne Adams. “As a nurse, I have seen firsthand how a little pampering and a beauty makeover can help restore self-esteem and boost morale for a woman battling cancer or another terminal illness. A professional portrait gives that woman’s family an enduring image of their loved one – something they may never have had the opportunity to have before now. While we are launching in the Bay Area, it is our goal to recruit photographers and makeup professionals in every state to help make a difference in the lives of women with terminal illnesses,” concluded Adams.
